FAGACE SUPPORTS THE MODERNIZATION OF NIGER’S TELECOM NETWORK

The headquarters of the Fonds Africain de Garantie et de Coopération (FAGACE) in Cotonou was the setting this week for the signing of an agreement for 3 billion FCFA (1 US dollar = approx. 585 FCFA) to Société nigérienne des télécommunications (SONITEL).
This sum represents a partial guarantee for a loan of 9 billion FCFA granted by the West African Development Bank (BOAD) for the partial financing of SONITEL’s telecoms network modernization project.
The project, with a total cost of 15.6 billion FCFA, aims to modernize Niger’s telecommunications network and integrate it into the subregional high-speed fiber optic digital network through digitization.
It aims to extend communication centers and transmission systems, and to build the Niger section of the optodigital loop, connected to the fiber optic cable arteries of Burkina Faso and Benin.
Through these two countries, Niger will be directly linked to Togo, Mali and Côte d’Ivoire for international connections.
