STRENGTHENING COOPERATION BETWEEN FAGACE AND NIGER

A delegation from the Fonds Africain de Garantie et de Coopération Economique (FAGACE) led by its Managing Director, Mr Henri-Marie DONDRA undertook a four-day mission from April 13 to 16, 2015, as part of the strengthening of cooperative relations between the international institution and the Republic of Niger.

During the mission, the delegation was received in audience by His Excellency President Mahamadou ISSOUFOU, the Prime Minister Mr. Brigi RAFINI, Mr. Amadou Boubacar CISSE, Minister of State, Minister of Planning, Regional Planning and Community Development, and Mr. Mohamed BOUCHA, Minister Delegate for the Budget.

During these meetings, the Managing Director of FAGACE presented the Nigerien authorities with an overview of the Fund’s operations in Niger since its creation in 1977. He recalled that FAGACE’s portfolio in Niger comprises 18 projects: seven (7) downstream projects that have mobilized 23.082 billion in investments in various sectors of activity, and 11 interest-rate subsidies for a total of around seven billion CFA francs.

FAGACE’s visit to Niger also provided an opportunity to explore ways of strengthening cooperation in order to better support the economic revival initiated by the Government of Niger. Discussions focused on increasing FAGACE’s involvement and on synergies that could facilitate the mobilization of resources in favor of African countries, and Niger in particular.

The aim of this type of periodic visit is to gain a deeper understanding of the country’s development challenges, and to deepen dialogue with the authorities of member states.

During the mission, field visits were made to the ASUSU-SA project site, which has benefited from a 1 billion cfa franc guarantee from the fund as part of the reinforcement of its activities, and to two projects submitted by Niger in the real estate and agro-industry sectors.
