A delegation from the African Guarantee and Economic Cooperation Fund (FAGACE), led by its Director General, Mr. Ngueto Tiraïna YAMBAYE, stayed in Nouakchott in Mauritania, from February 13 to 17, 2023.
To present its pleasantries to them and as a prelude to the technical meetings with financial institutions, the Mission was received in audience by:
- HE Isselmou ould Mohamed M’Badi, Minister of Finance of Mauritania;
- Mr. Mohamed-Lemine DHEHBY, Governor of the Central Bank of Mauritania (BCM);
- Mr. Mohamadou Youssouf DIAGANA, the Director General of the Caisse de Dépôts et de Développement de la Mauritania (CDD);
- Mrs. Aïssata LAM, Director General of the Agency for the Promotion of Investments in Mauritania (APIM).
From the discussions that took place, what emerged was the desire to see FAGACE strengthen its role as guarantor to boost the financing of the Mauritanian economy.
In this context, a technical meeting was organized with banks and financial institutions to present the new operating mode of FAGACE and its advantages at the AZALAÏ hotel in Nouakchott on February 14, 2023. During this meeting, Mauritanian financial institutions all admitted the need for a guarantor such as FAGACE in the private and public sector financing system.
On the sidelines, during B to B meetings, several financial institutions signed partnership agreements with the Fund, thus marking the launch of cooperation.
Partnership agreements with:
- the Bank for Commerce and Industry (BCI);
- International Bank of Mauritania (IBM);
- the Banque Populaire de Mauritanie (BPM);
- Bank El Amana (BEA);the Islamic Bank of Mauritania (BIM).
In addition, the Fund is committed to the creation of an information and liaison office with a view to facilitating interactions between the main stakeholders in the financing of the Mauritanian Economy.
This mission thus marks a new turning point in the cooperation and activities of the Fund in Mauritania.
