At the invitation of the Professional Association of African Guarantee Institutions (APIGA), the African Guarantee and Economic Cooperation Fund (FAGACE), participated in the Euro-Mediterranean Guarantee Conference in Rabat, Morocco, on Thursday January 18, 2024.
This meeting brought together representatives of around fifteen African institutions to conduct a collective reflection on the challenges that SMEs face on a continental scale, particularly in terms of access to financing, as well as on the crucial issues for strengthening guarantee mechanisms in Africa.
The opening ceremony was marked by the interventions of Messrs. Hicham Zanati Serghini, Managing Director of Tamwilcom, Nouaman Al Aissami, Deputy Director of Treasury and External Finance (Ministry of Economy and Finance) and Achraf Tarsim, responsible -country for Morocco of the African Development Bank.
The debates then focused on the role of guarantee systems as a buffer against economic shocks in a context of multiple crises and their contribution to maintaining the financial stability of their respective countries.
The conference was also an opportunity for participants to address the issues and prospects for the development of guarantee systems in Africa, with an emphasis on supporting regional integration for more resilient, more agile systems. and better adapted to the economic realities of the continent.
The conference was followed by the holding of the Annual Meetings of the Professional Association of African Guarantee Institutions (APIGA) which resulted in the re-election of Tamwilcom as president of the association.
Remember that APIGA was created in 2007 in Benin, with the mission of establishing a favorable framework for exchange and consultation for better intervention by African guarantee institutions in favor of the economies of their countries. It brings together 17 guarantee institutions from around ten African countries.
